In Cold Case Detectives students will explore the various time periods in the exhibition in the role of detectives, profiling the lives - and possibly deaths - of ‘cold cases’ from various periods of Melbourne’s past.
Students will use the exhibition to create detailed understandings of the lives of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. They will investigate the purpose and meaning of objects, collaborate in identifying and pursuing lines of enquiry, record information, and draw tentative conclusions about aspects of the era by pooling their findings with those of other team members.
The program provides the basis for further investigations back at school using The Melbourne Story web-based resources, which encourage students to extend and share their research, deduce patterns over time, draw conclusions about the ways attitudes, behaviours and institutions develop and test them against observable aspects of the present; and make predictions about the future.
